- Returns, Replacements & Repairs
-
Each of our jewelry pieces has a hallmark tag. This acts as your receipt and must be present for a return/refund/repair. We would not be happy if you are not happy! Your satisfaction is incredibly important to us. However, we do not take returns on customized/personalized pieces unless our craftsmanship is in question. If you notice a problem with your piece, we must be contacted via email within 48 hours of your receiving your shipment. We will work with you to make sure your order is up to the standards you would expect from The Pretty Peacock. If you contact us after the 48 hour inspection time frame, we can discuss your options based on the problem at hand.
The sales from our Charity by Design pieces are final. The proceeds from these pieces are donated directly to specific organizations and do not qualify for refunds/exchanges.
Repairs: We work very hard to make sure that your piece is crafted with durability in mind. Jewelry is fragile by nature - getting it caught on a doorknob, or allowing your two year old to play dress up with your treasure is not a wise choice!
Common sense care is vital! Please do not wear your jewelry in hot tubs, swimming pools, or salt water. Doing so can cause irreparable damage to your jewelry.
If your new treasure breaks due to the craftsmanship of the piece, please contact us within 48 hours. We will be happy to discuss your options. - Ordering

We work very hard to offer the highest quality materials in each of our designs. Our precious metals are purchased from companies that have been around for decades and have great reputations. Our designs themselves are tested prior to listing - you just never know what might seem like a great design, but may not work out in practical life. We eliminate this worry by trying the pieces out for ourselves and actually living our day-to-day lives. That means making sure the designs and craftsmanship can hold up even when your toddler jumps onto you for the 50th piggyback ride!!
Sterling Silver
We use high quality sterling silver from reputable sources and forge, cut, saw, solder, anneal - anything that we need, to make sure that the piece is created to our high standards.
Fine Silver
One of The Pretty Peacock's favorite materials to work with, fine silver is ECO-FRIENDLY, high-grade silver. Fine silver is actually 'reclaimed' silver from the tech industry. The whole idea of 'reclaimed' silver should not make you worry about the quality or integrity of this incredible material. Fine silver actually starts in clay form. Millions of the 'reclaimed' silver particles are suspended in an organic binder and when heated at high temperatures, the organic binders burn away and all that is left is 99.9% pure silver as opposed to sterling silver's 92.5%.
Mining is not required to procure fine silver, therefore no negative impact is done to our environment.
Gold Fill
Gold-fill is of far higher quality than gold-plate, which can flake off relatively easily. The core of a gold-fill piece is brass, and then 14Kt solid cold material is layered and then chemically bonded to the brass core. Due to this 'layering' process, there is far more gold content than gold plating can offer. Gold-fill jewelry looks just like solid gold, but is hardier and more resilient to damage.
Vermeil
Vermeil is typically 22K, sometimes 24K, gold dipped sterling silver. Because vermeil is created using both sterling silver and gold, it is made entirely of precious metals. However, vermeil uses a much thinner layer of gold that can wear off and then you will see a the sterling silver showing through - which isn't such a bad thing! On the flip side, Vermeil does use a much higher grade of gold than gold fill (22K vs 14K) - this also makes vermeil more yellow than gold fill.
Copper
Copper is the only non-precious metal The Pretty Peacock currently accepts into the roost! The warmth and glow of copper looks so stunning against sterling silver that we had to put it into the mix! Our copper comes from reputable sources, just like all of our other metals. We only use thick cuts of copper sheet to use in our creations.
- Caring for you Pretty Peacock Jewelry
- Common sense care is vital when it comes to your jewelry lasting! Do not spray your jewelry with chemicals (i.e. perfume, hairspray, spray tans, etc.) it will just gunk everything up and you do not want that.
The Pretty Peacock tries to be as Earth-friendly as possible, so chemical cleaning agents are a no-no for us. An easy and eco-friendly way of cleaning your jewelry is to mix 2 tablespoons of baking soda with 3 teaspoons of water until it becomes thick and pasty. Use a soft piece of cloth (an old t-shirt, perhaps?) and gently rub the paste on your treasure. Rinse with water and dry.
The paste should only be used if your jewelry becomes really filthy. Typically, a quick rub with a jewelry cloth with NO additional cleaner will do the trick.
Oxidized (Gray/Black Antiqued) Silver Pieces
Most of the pieces we create with any text has been oxidized to turn the text to a beautiful, velvet black. This is a chemical reaction, but can fade substantially if you get your jewelry in contact with swimming pools, hot tubs, or salt water. Don't risk it.
Swarovski Crystals
If we are going to use crystals in our pieces, they are going to come from the Austrian-based company called Swarovski. No crystal is finer, more brilliant, or have such sparkling color. However, even Swarovski crystalscan dull from the oils from your body and cosmetics after prolonged wear. You can clean these with a little Dawn (hey, it cuts the grease!) and a retired toothbrush to bring back that well-loved luster.
Pearls and Other Semi-Precious Stones
Clean with mild, soapy water. Any other cleaners may damage the surface of your stones.
